Sound
>I spent many a night in the likes of Kielder Forrest, following the RAC Rally. Often blanketed in a layer of fresh snow, the eirie silence would only be broken the marshall’s whistle, and the cacophony of noise, echoing off the wall of rows and rows of tree’s, of a rapidly approaching Group B Monster. Forget the running order, the engine note alone would inform you what was coming.
The roar of the 24v V6 Williams Grand Prix engineered MG Metro 6R4.
The cracking and popping of the 5 cylinder 20v 500+ BHP Audi Sport Quattro E2.
Have a listen., unmistakeable!
The screaming, Supercharged and Turbocharged, 16v 4 Cylinder 1759cc engined Lancia Delta S4.
Off course there were others such as Peugeots successful 205 T16 and the mid engined Ford RS200, but on noise alone, these two just don’t cut it.
and, sadly neither did the original Group B Supercar, the Montecarlo based (if you look hard enough) stunning Lancia 037.
